Students will complete a worksheet that identifies the different parts of the plant to their function. They can then make careful observations and record their findings as drawings, to show how some plants are affected by factors such as water and light.
This resource is for students in lower key stage 2 and relates to the ‘Plants’ part of the Science National Curriculum.
This on-site task focuses on the variety of plants found in the woodland and garden areas of Robin Hill.
It is suggested to teachers that students be introduced to the variety of plants and the basic requirement for plant growth (air, light, water and room to grow).
Optional post-visit aspects of the task - students could work scientifically by comparing the effect of different factors on plant growth, eg. amount of light or the amount of fertiliser. „ Students can extend their understanding to the life cycle of plants with particular reference to seed production.
Students will be aware of the relationship between structure and function. They will explore the effects of different factors on plant growth.
