Blackgang Chine calls itself "Land of Imagination" with many different attractions in one park. There's everything from nursery rhyme characters through to pirates, cowboys, fairies, goblins and even life-sized animatronic dinosaurs! Add in a few thrill rides and factual museums and you have a great mix for a fun day out.
Every year hundreds of school parties from across the country visit Blackgang Chine. Childrens' imaginations run wild as they enjoy the many themed areas around the park.
Blackgang provides a fertile base for activity play and learning, with exhibitions on coastal erosion, woodland & countryside crafts and the "Wight Experience" simulated helicopter trip around the Island!
Suspend disbelief and enjoy all the quirks you will experience at Blackgang. The kids will simply love it!
In our opinion, school trips to Blackgang Chine are best suited to the KS1, KS2 and KS3 age groups, although there's something for all ages to enjoy!
Here's some of the most frequently-asked questions about school visits to Blackgang Chine, posed by teachers and other group leaders
First aid is available at the gift shop near the entrance/exit. If you need assistance whilst in the park, all members of staff are in radio contact with the front desk, so they will attend to you promptly.
Most groups allocate a half day for trips to Tapnell and combine it with other attractions in the area, such as Dinosaur Expeditions or The Needles Pleasure Cruise. However, Tapnell is continually expanding and we are now seeing groups opt to spend a whole day here.
Blackgang Chine is mostly an outdoors attraction with some aspects under cover, so you will need to check the forecast and go prepared. This IS the Isle of Wight though so is one of the sunniest and driest places in the UK!
We will pre-book your visit for you and your entry charges will be paid directly by Education Destination. All you need to do is show up at the agreed time, line the kids up outside, identify yourselves to staff and you'll be enjoying the park in no time!
Whilst most of the main park elements are easily accessible on wide, relatively flat footpaths, there are some smaller areas that might present a problem to the less able or wheelchair users as there are some inclines in places. So long as there's plenty of able-bodied assistance this shouldn't cause too many difficulties.
There are several toilet facilities spread throughout the park, so you're never more than a few minutes away from a loo! On arrival you'll be given a park map and all of the facilities will be clearly highlighted for you, including disabled options. There's a block right by the entrance.
The park has many picnic tables available for use. There are also cafes, snack bars and ice-cream huts within the park if you'd like to plan a treat or a hot lunch for example. We can help with that.
Blackgang Chine really is a full day activity to get the most out of the park, however some schools like to combine a trip here with a shorter activity such as a beach fossil walk or a boat trip to the Needles rocks, both nearby.
