"Visit the Isle of Wight, world renowned for its dinosaur and fossil collections. This tour is ideal for those undertaking project work on fossils, dinosaurs or the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. Students will be able to handle fossil exhibits and search for their own on some of the best beaches and cliffs in Europe."
When compiling this itinerary we have assumed half-day visits on the first and last days to allow travel to/from the Isle of Wight.
Our tours are suitable for all age groups, but the subject matter and venues highlighted here are best suited to the following:

Dinosaur Isle
All year facility combining entertainment, education and enjoyment.

Your visit will include a tour of the museum, a group fossil-handling session led by a qualified palaeontologist followed by a fossil hunt on the nearby beach and cliffs.
Alum Bay
World famous multi-coloured sand cliffs and vertical strata
Alum Bay is the location of a classic sequence of upper Paleocene and Eocene beds of soft sands and clays. The strata in the main section of the bay are near vertical and the sands are coloured due to oxidised iron compounds formed under different conditions. A stunning view of the Needles rock formation is available from Alum Bay, along with optional boat trips from the pier.
Such is the variety of colour in the sands that they were used in Victorian times for marmotinto, a popular artform.
Take a walk down to the beach and get a close up view of these famous cliffs. For the more adventurous, you could take a chairlift during the summer months! (chargeable, not included).
Needles Pleasure Cruises
A gentle cruise right up to the Needles
Hop aboard for a short 20 minute cruise right up to the world famous Needles!
Blackgang Chine
Land of Imagination...
Every year hundreds of school parties from across the country visit Blackgang Chine. Childrens' imaginations run wild as they enjoy the many themed areas around the park.
Blackgang provides a fertile base for activity play and learning, with exhibitions on coastal erosion, woodland & countryside crafts and the 'Wight Experience' "helicopter trip" over the Island!
As well as being a great fun day out where students can let off steam whilst working through an incredibly rich set of resources and activities, it also features some of the biggest and most impressive animatronic dinosaurs in the UK! Restricted Area 5 is a tongue-in-cheek look at the world of dinosaurs, yet retains sufficient factual information to make this a useful learning visit.

Created by enthusiasts to promote responsible fossil discovery, conservation and interpretation.
