This is a English/Spoken Language task that enables students to practise their questioning and listening skills, as well as recording the information discovered. The task links to specific information about the Isle of Wight Steam Railway that should be interesting and relevant to students in key stage 1.
Questions have been chosen because they link with core English skills on the 2014 curriculum and also specific cross-curricular skills for example in the subjects of History and Science.
The questions could be discussed in class prior to the trip so students are aware of the information they need to discover.
Completion of the Spoken Language KS1 resource/s linked to this document
Follow-up tasks could include whole class discussion about the responses to the questions, learning how to collate responses, or groups presenting back their collated ideas to the class
Students will be able to demonstrate their questioning skills, by asking appropriate questions of the right people, or finding the required information. Students will also be able to demonstrate that they have listened by recording the information gleaned from the visit.
