This is an English resource that engages students with their visit to Blackgang Chine. The resource task enables them to consider stereotypes linking to pirates, different viewpoints, interviewing techniques and the use of emotive language in certain situations.
Students will find out about modern-day piracy and be given the opportunity to write challenging questions for a Somali pirate (and write emotive responses form the interviewee).
Study of news interviews. „ Investigation of the presentation of pirates in popular films (Peter Pan/Pirates of the Caribbean).
Students could note down the presentation of pirates at Blackgang Chine’s Pirate Cove
Question-and-answer script writing. „ Film research. „ Discussion of stereotypes. „ Use of formal and emotive language. „ Filming (using video cameras/mobile devices). „ Self-evaluation.
Students will demonstrate their performance skills. They will demonstrate their planning skills and their collaborative working. Students will later reflect on the visit and consider how the task has challenge their perceptions.
