This is an English resource that engages students with their visit to Blackgang Chine. The resource task enables them to practise their performance skills, designing a new western-themed advert for a product of their choice, whilst incorporating scenes shot at Cowboy Town (these will be edited back at school).

Contextual Summary


Students will need to complete scripts and practise their advert prior to arrival at Cowboy Town in order to ensure that the work can be completed on site.

Learning Opportunities

Pre-Visit

1) Study television advertising. 2)„ Introduce the task – to produce a TV advertisement, inspired by an original. 3)„ Watch the spaghetti western white chocolate advert - found on youtube at https://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=I2hp7sBE8hk. 4)„ Produce their own interpretation of the advert with new product and western themes (which will be filmed on site). 5)„ Teachers may decide to ask students to engage in a persuasive letter writing task to encourage an adult to be part of the performance

On-Site

Students film their advertisements

Post-Visit

Students edit the scenes together. „ They can then evaluate each others’ work at the point of completion.

Learning Outcomes

Students will demonstrate their creativity (in writing and performance). They will demonstrate their planning skills and their collaborative working. Students will use the visit as a source of inspiration to write creatively.
