Resource Description
This is an English Spoken Language task that enables students to practise their questioning and listening skills, as well as summarising techniques. The task links to specific information about Dinosaur Isle museum that should be interesting and relevant to students in key stage 2.
Contextual Summary
Questions have been chosen because they link with core English Spoken Language skills and also specific cross-curricular skills for example in the subjects of Natural History (how the past is represented) and Science (changing materials, rocks, fossils, etc.).
Task Implementation
This task can be introduced before the visit to Dinosaur Isle, in class, as a taster activity. Students could share their ‘guesses’ as to what the answers may be, as a class or in groups, and then will find out when attending the museum visit if they were accurate. Working in groups may better support lower ability students in terms of learning and understanding. Alternatively, the task can be introduced on arrival
as an investigative activity to focus students’ attention on key areas during their visit.
When on site, students will be able to use the questions as prompts to engage with the skilled experts at the Dinosaur Isle museum in order to find the answers to their questions, gaining a more enhanced and enriched visit experience.
