Students complete a crossword using maritime terms and phrases. They will also find out which maritime terms are seen on board, and will gain an understanding of how these words are used in context on board the ferries or at the terminals.
This is an English resource that engages students during the Red Funnel ferry crossing. The resource task enables them to increase their vocabulary.
Students are asked to complete a number of tasks which introduce them to nautical terms using the ferry crossing as their stimulus material.
This is an on-site resource with post-ferry optional tasks. The students will need to be issued with the worksheets they need in order to complete the task.
This could be followed up in accommodation or classroom if extra time is needed.
It is anticipated that students will be more motivated to complete the task as it relates to an actual experience.
The task will reinforce the students’ awareness of the use of technical vocabulary in different environments.
The resource could be used at any stage throughout the year after the visit to Red Funnel, although the motivating impact of the experience will be reduced over time.
