The resource is a series of questions that link directly to the Isle of Wight Steam Railway’s museum; as the students engage with the interpretation around the room, they will learn about how the railways on the Isle of Wight have changed from the past to the present.
Students are able to practise their interpretation skills whilst engaging with historical aspects of the Isle of Wight Steam Railway. The task is relevant to students in key stage 3 and key stage 4.
This is an on-site task. It is suggested to teachers that they introduce the background of the railway, in particular the history of the Isle of Wight railway network and its demise, as a class pre-learning activity. An understanding of the general history of transport and its development would also be useful preparation for this task. When on site at the museum, students will be able to undertake the task elements and can practise their interpretation.
